There were steps of slate descending down to the first room. The fort contained three rooms. In the first room the men entered there was a table, on which were a writing pen and paper. The second room contained a fire place and mantel - piece. As they were about to enter the third room, the door closed on them and they were driven back. They got frightened and they came out of the fort.
There is a fort in Ardra, Bantry. It is supposed that there is gold concealed in it. In the year one thousand, eight hundred and eighty eight some sea - men who came to Bantry explored the inside. They worked from Christmas until February, but did not find any gold. They found that the court contained many rooms, which were separated by large walls of stone.
