Of patriotic John Twiss
The bravest of the brave
Whose body sleeps within the prison wall
In an unhonoured grave
The story is a sad one
The heroic man struck down
By the blood money and perjury
Of a harsh relentless Crown
On the 27th of April
They arrested this brave man
And brought him to Newmarket
Where the trial straight began
They lost no opportunity
To try to make him change his coat
But he always answered proudly
Sure I'd rather cut my throat
They singled out their victim
