    next day. The butter was nearly always sent to Cork. It was sent fresh in boxes and salted butter in firkins. There were ig butter Merchants in Cork and it was sent by train. In olden times they sent the butter by car. There was another churn called the standing churn and the butter was made in it by lifting the staff up and down.
    When filling the firkin if any butter was left over it was called a goblac whereas if there wasnt enough to fill the firkin they termed this an easnamh When sent to Cork the butter was graded into glasses and paid for accordingly. The very best butter was put in a special firkin called superfine.
