- In olden times the farmers had different methods for planting potatoes. There were six methods altogether, namely grubbing, ré-digging, turning taobhfoidhes, ploughing drills, Scotch drills, and ploughing ridges. I am now going to explain how each method was performed. The first methos is grubbing.According to grubbing. One man would get a rope about one hundred feet long. He used to put the rope in a straight line along the garden and allow three feet for the ridges and one foot and a half for the furrows. When the ridges were made, the manure was put on them, and on the manure were put the sciollains. Then te furrows were dug with a spade and the earth was put on top of the sciollains. After a while the second earth was put on the ridges with a shovel.Another way for planting potatoes was called ré-digging.
