   any stories about a house without a chimney or about the fire being kindled in the middle of the house. There were houses that had no glass. Instead of glass they used paper and in other cases they used bags or hay to close them by night. The floors and walls of all those thatched houses were made of mud and rushes mixed. The rushes were cute in a furze machine. The mud was well tempered by trampling when wet. They were both then mixed together and placed on the floor. Half doors were very common formerly in those houses. They are very uncommon now, as the type of houses are very much improved. In those times there were no big lamps the light of the houses used be splinters cut about two feet long -
