- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)dress up in queer costumes, and go round from house to house collecting money. The boys sing the wren song, which is,
"The wren, the wren, the king of all birds,
St. Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze.
Although he was little, his family was great,
So rise up good landlady and give us a treat.
We hunted the wren through frost, and snow,
We hunted this wren ten miles or more
At Sallypark gate we broke his knee
And we brought him home on this holly tree
Mr. O'Brien is a worthy man
And to his honour we brought this wren
Bottles of whiskey and bottles of beer
I wish wou a happy Christmas and New Year.
Up with the kett;e and down with the pan
So give us some money to bury the wren.
The boys who go round, and get money buy sweets with their money, or else they keep it, and buy their school's books. Very few boys keep their money, because they like enjoying themselves.
The men with their money go to dances, concerts, or entertainments which are held on that night, in the local dance hall. When they went round from house to house, and from place to place they are taken there in motor-cars.
The people have a good time on that day.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
