He worked for 60 years and was living in the house where Bill Dwane is living now and he had a forge there. It was all coake he used. He was not able to read or write and he would ask men to read the paper for him and if they made any mistake he would know it. He was very well able to play cards. The nails were sold by the pound and dozen. He was a native of the parish. Sometimes he kept a helper with him. The rod-iron was 6 feet in length and often 7 feet. It was a very good trade till the machinery was made.
