- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)little attention to training. In fact none of our parish athletes took this matter seriously at any time. Mick Flaherty was a good runner and jumper, and his father jumped a dike in Annagh bog about twenty three feet wide. Mick Connell also excelled at running and jumping at local sports and John and Paddy O Brien were amongst the best athletes competing at sports in any part of Munster. Their principal victories being won in the "Hundred" yards. The two twenty the "Four forty" and the long jump. But they never trained for these events so we may regret that greater honours in the athletic field could have been won by our local athletes and were simply thrown away through carelessness. Robert Winter was a great cross country runner and used to finish as fresh as a daisy after five miles but it appears that some of his neighbours over trained him so that our Parish athletes were badly managed all round.
