1. The Potato Crop (ar lean)

   First he puts a hole in the ground with a spade and he puts the potato into the hole. Then he closes the hole with a shovel.

   Long ago wooden ploughs were used but no trace of them are to be seen today. The spades that the farmers use are made in foundries and sent to the shops. The farmers buy them from the shopkeepers.

   In the planting and the digging of the potatoes the neighbours help one another. When the farmer is doing his work the neighbours help him. Then the farmer helps them when they are doing their work.

   During the year the potato crop must get a lot of care or if it does not it will not produce a good crop. When the stalks are over ground in June the first trenching is put on. This is done by putting the earth which is between the ridges up on the stalks with a shovel. After a while the second trenching is done. Then the stalks are sprayed
