- St. Stephen's Day is looked forward to by the school-boys of the place. They go from house to house singing a song about the wren and for singing it they get money from the neighbours. They carry a holly bush decked with bright coloured ribbons and paper and in the centre they have a wren.
The following is the song they sing:-"The wren, the wren the king of all birds,
On St. Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze,.
They hunted him up and they hunted him down,
Till one of the wren boys knocked him down
So here he is, here, plain to be seen
Hanging from this holly tree"."I have a little box here under my arm
A shilling or two will do it no harm.
A shilling or two will not beggar a man,
And it will help the wren boys to bury the wren."(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
