An inquest was held on th bodies of those killed in the battle of Gortrue in Rathcormac.
This inquest lasted for several weeks as there was a large number of witnesses to be examined.
The verdict returned at this request by the was wilful murder against Ryder. Collis and Bagdely[?] Collis being the police officer and Bagdely the Military Officer. Daniel O Connell the Liberator intended getting those men tried for their lives but the case fell through, Mrs Ryan refusing to swear on the accused.
