The alarm was immediately given to the military and it failed them to capture h im. The chase was from Blackpool to near Mallow. As the Brickoloch was nearing Mallow he got the best of his pursuers for he jumped the Blackwater in one clean leap. The story goes that as he landed on the opposite bank he met an old woman there who was "[?]" clothes at the river. She exclaimed "That was a terrible jump, Sir."
