In olden times the people used to make their (known as cakes) from oaten meal. The bread was kneade with sour milk, there was no need to use water because milk was very plentiful at that time. The people used to put three marks (as usual) on the top of the cake to make it rise, and also to keep the crust from cracking. II
They used to bake on an average from one to two cakes every day and eat them as well (This of course applied only to big families)
The bread was baked on a griddle which was a round flat piece of iron with two handles, the dough was put on top of the griddle, and the griddle was put on top of the fire and then it was left there to bake.III
