    In Summer the weather fore-cast is often given by the swallows.
    When they fly high up it is a sign of fine weather, because the insects they feed on rise on the rarefied air and when the air gets damp the insects come low down, so the swallows come also, and it is a sign of rain when the swallows skim the ground.
    When rain is near the cry of the curlew is heard very plainly on the strand. A big circle around the moon denotes a gale. If one looks closely at it a gap in the circle is noticed and wherever the gap occurs it is from that point the gale comes.
