Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)She followed the man home to his house. He threw the cap up in a loft unknown to the mermaid. She settled down after a time, and married the man.
Years passed and the mermaid lived in the house seldom going outside the door. During all the time she was never seen to laugh and seemed to be discontented.
It happened one day that her husband was looking for something in this loft where he had hidden the little red cap. There he found it and he forgot himself and threw the cap down to the kitchen floor. The mermaid below, when she saw it, gave a cry of joy and snapping it up, she made for the door and off for the Shannon; and before her husband could catch up with her, she had disappeared in the water, and was never seen or heard of since.
