  1. On the thirty first of January which is St. Brigid's eve, people make crosses of green rushes and lay them on the threshold of the door.
    On St. Patrick's day people wear shamrock or green ribbons.
    On Shrove Tuesday people make pancakes and it is called pancake night.
    On Ash Wednesday the first day of lent people put blessed Ashes on their foreheads.
    Chalk Sunday is the first Sunday after Ash Wednesday. Any bachelor who did not get married during Shrove is chalked on the back of his coat so that everyone would know he let Shrove pass without getting married.
    On Fools day the first of April some people give others false messages so as to make fools of them.
    On Easter Sunday people eat a great many eggs.
    The first of May is called May day. On May eve people shake holy water on their cattle and land to ward off the evil of pishoges.
    On St. John's night , the twenty fourth of June people make bonfires.
    On Halloween the thirty first of October, young people play snap apple and the old
