    Local Forges
    There are two forges in this parish. They are about four miles apart, one is Killeedy and the other is in Mountplummer. Paddy Vaughan is the owner of the one in Killeedy and Jack Lynch is the owner of the one in Mountplummer. Paddy Vaughan is better to shoe horses than John Lynch and John Lynch is better to make gates than Paddy Vaughan. It is said that if a blacksmith reddened a coulter [?] of a plough that he would bring all the piseogs of that district running after them. It is said that the forge water would cure warts out of a persons hands. Patrick Vaughan has two of his sons working in the forge with him. His gran - father was not a smith. The people in each forge have a lot of instruments
