- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The famine was gone and over but the misfortune and misery of the Irish returned again in a form nearly worse than the famine and this was a certain disease called Cholera.
This swept all the people in a few weeks. When a person got an attack of it a couple of men known as the “Body Snatchers” took the body away. The old people say when questioned as to what these men did with the bodies that the buried them alive standing.
The disease was spreading rapidly in the district and people were dying at all hours. At last the villagers appealed to Father Meaney the parish priest to help them.
Most of the people up nursing the sick in the village saw the priest walking up and down the street reading a book between midnight and dawn. After that night the Cholera passed away and never visited the district again “Thank God”.- Bailitheoir
