  1. Some years ago before foxhunting season opened in the Co. Limerick a party of English men, friends of Lord Dunraven were invited to dinner at the Manor. He also invited the Catholic Curate of Adare. The feast happened to fall on a Friday and all the gentry who were Protestants were eating meat, and the priest of course did not partake of any meat. All the gentry began to laugh and make fun of the priest, and said "he was no better than any man, or if he was, could he prove it"? So the priest got indignant and called on his Valet to go to the Parish priests house and to bring him a certain book, the Valet went and asked this book of the Priest. But the Priest refused and would not give it to him. When the Valet came back and told his story all the English gentry began to laugh at the Priest, "we should like you would get that book to see what you can do". So the Priest went and got the book himself when he came back to the
