Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)houses it was usually in the centre of the wall dividing the rooms. It was occasionally in the corner to save space. The chimney was usually of clay. Glass was not used in every house and old bags etc were placed over the openings at night time or during bad weather in the day time.
The floors were made either of mud or "flags" or slabs of stone. Half doors are not so common now, but they were in every house formerly. They were often the only means of light and ventilation.
Turf and wood and brushwood were used for fire. Coal was rare except in well to-do houses. Bog deal splinters, candles, dips and rush-lights were used for giving light. They were all made at home from the different ingredients.
