No title
There was a famous man living in a poor little hut in the Glen of Aherlow. His name was John Carroll. He was born in Aherlow in the year 1824. He was a famous walker. On many different occasions he was said to leave Knockcarron in the morning and walk to Cork city and be home again before darkness set in. He taught a hedge-school in Lackelly, a townland in the parish of Emly, Co. Tipperary, from 1850 to 1870. He used to walk from Aherlow to Knockcarron every morning and home again that evening.
He was about six feet tall and was very strong. His son was also a champion walker.- Faisnéiseoir
