- In my district the people are so superstitious that they would think no more of violating silly little things than taking their own lives. People believe that it is unlucky to remove from one house to another only on a Friday. People believe that it is unlucky to throw out ashes on Monday. It is said that the household should not be left without spring water at night. They say that the "Good People" will come for a drink of water. The first of April is called fool's day. On May Eve some people would not let you take water from their wells. They say you would take the fat of the land.
On St John's Eve people light a furze bush and walk around the garden with the lighting bush in their hands to keep away the flight of the spell.
They say that Friday is the most unlucky to begin ploughing.
