    On his historic ride to Ballyneety Sarsfield passed by the village of Doon. Carna or Carnahalla where the raparees mustered is about a mile from the village and it is interesting to observe the skill displayed by his guide in his movements through the valleys, always keeping the hills between him and the enemy but steadily closing in on his prey until the decisive hour for the assault.
    Many an Irish ballad tells the s tory of this romantic ride and how -
    At the hour of midnight, each man leaped on his steed.
    Down moor and vale tp Cuillen we dashed with lightning speed.
    Then eagerly we galloped to Ballyneety's Wall
    Where lay our foes encampment with guns and stores and all
    'Give the word':- 'The word is Sarsfield, and Sarsfield is the man.
    'And here we are' our General cried, as down on them we ran
    Then God he cleared the firmament, and the moon and stars gave light
