- Father Hickey's cow is still spoken of by many in this district. Father Hickey was Parish Priest of Doon in those Land war days. He was a man who was much beloved by his flock. Now in those days, the Catholics were obliged to pay tithes to the protestant Landlord of the district, one way those were paid, if a man had a garden of oats, every tenth sheaf should go to the landlord. Well, Father Hickey refused to pay his tithes and the bailiff seized on his cow. The people of the parish rose in rebellion and came in a body and took away Father Hicke's cow. They decked it's horns with green(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
