Along on both sides of this passage small cupboards were built. When the monks were going away they stored their sacred vessals in these cupboards. (Once when the Danes were fighting near the monastery the monks hid their sacred vessals and went away on a boat. They meant to return for them again but they were all killed or drowned. Many attempts have been made to discover these articles but failed. (In one occasion some men tried it but they all died soon after and had a very unhappy ending. Horses or cattle put into this field will pine away. Many serious accidents have occurred in this field. It is also said that opposite the opening of this passage on the Shannon no fish can be caught as the waters are sacred.- Faisnéiseoir
