  1. I knew a woman called Alice Noonan who travelled from place to place spinning wool and dyeing it. Her own home was in Kilfiny. She was a great singer and about the best dancer in the county. the time she sheared two sheep and combed the wool and spun the makings of twelve pairs of stockings or socks. She then dyed one ball black and white and the other pepper and salt. Alice said that any man looking for a wife should wear a pair of these socks, knitted with the wool and then worn with low shoes. He would get a good partner then.
All the young men were successful so Alice was kept going day and night spinning in every house in the country side. It was customary for the people of the house, where she was spinning to give a great dance on the eve of her departure
