- One day Laurence Dillon the poet went out walking through the country. On his way he met another poet. The poet said to him "I bet you ten shillings I'll beat you at the making of poetry" "I'll bet the same you wont" said Laurence. They decided on meeting some night after. The poet came to Dillon's house to fulfill his agreement. He came in and saw no one inside but Laurence's son who was lighting a fire. "Where is your father" asked the poet "He is hardly here anyway" said the son. "Well" said the poet "when you are as clever as that I don't know what your father is like"
