At the end he cried "Out upon thee, thou demon in human form! Out upon thee, thou desecrator of the sanctity of the dead."
O'Kennedy wept again over the dead body & it was with difficulty that he was removed from the bedside. Now he became more sorrowful than ever. He devoted his time to his son - Gerald O'Brien. During the next five year O'Brien O'Brien never entered the Castle.
One evening O'Kennedy returned to his Castle to find the inmates in confusion. "Has anything happened?" he asked. "We hope not," was the answer he got, "but Gerald cannot be found anywhere. We have searched everywhere but can get no tidings". O'Kennedy wrung his hands in agony when he heard this.
No trace of Gerald was found & O'Kennedy became a victim to fever, from trouble. He got partially better after some time O'Kennedy now turned to pray and resigned his will to his Almighty God. The gates of the castle were always open to the weary.
One wintry night O'Kennedy was attracted by the cries of a child. Taking a taper he found a beautiful child in a basket outside the gate. He brought in the child & cared for it.
