Fairy Forts (ar lean)
“There are various "fairy forts" in my school district.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)mound. In this great rath, a local prince or chieftain lived and around it the smaller raths or homes of the tenants were erected.
Around the inner circular mound, stout poles were fixed into the ground, which were called slat. They were peeled and polished smooth. The surface of the wall was plastered and made brilliantly white and the poles were exposed to view. Rathurles is said to be a rath-cave having underground chambers.
