    unsuspecting hedge-sparrow hatches all the eggs together. When the sprawling young cuckoo comes out she throws all the young birds out of the nest and leaves them on the ground to perish. There is always a little bird with the cuckoo. The name of that little bird is the tit-lark. The tit-lark flies before the cuckoo in order to draw her away from her nest. She holds flying away with the cuckoo for probably a mile and then she perches on some level meadow until she sees the cuckoo departing. Then she comes back to her own nest.
    There was a man named Patrick Hassett living in Coosáne one time. One day he was out hunting in the bog near Ballyhane and he saw a wild-duck rising out of a drain. She fluttered on before him for a few yards. They she would rise again and fly away about tweny yards more. She held fluttering away for about a mile with the result that Patrick followed her as far as Castleconnel. She was trying to draw him away from he young ones to safety. There was a man living in O'Briens Bridge one time. His man was John O'Mara. One day he was out fowling and he found two nests of wild-ducks eggs. He took them home to his sister. She got two hatching
