    rate a remote place entered only by long boreens and car tracks. There is a large portion under cut away bog but some of the land is very fertile. There is a Danish fort in the townland & underground passage from quarry in boreen.
    Garrenroe
    This name probably means the "red shubbery or grove". Cherry trees are abundant in the district at present. It contained Glebe land.
    Ratheriddogue
    I have seen this name explained as meaning "Craddock's fort" but I believe it unlikely. Though there are families of the name "Craddock" in the district they are not natives & it is not at all probably that the foreign name would be coupled with the Irish Rát. The second portion of the word has probably some bearing on the mound or "cruic" on which the fort is built. There are no traces of buildings in the fort. It is said that there is an underground passage leading from this fort to another in land ownded by Mr Thomas Keogh and from there to Raheatly.
