was the only member of the household to attend mass. My grandmother told her to bring a bottle of holy water and when the maid brought it home the old woman sprinkled it as usual with an extra big one for the boy Dick who was seated in the corner half asleep. He opened his eyes when the water touched him and said "That is not holy water." It is my boy" said my grandmother "Mary has just brought it." "I don't care," he fretfully replied, "where she got it, but it is not holy water." "How do you know." my grandfather asked in surprise. "Every Sunday when the mistress sprinkled the holy water since I can remember I shivered but I did not shiver to-day. The maid was frightened when she heard him and beckoned my grandmother to come outside. Then she confessed that she hid the bottle in a ditch when going to Mass and filled it with spring water on the way home.
