- There was once a farmer who had a rath on his land. He went out one day to look for a good tree to cut down for firing. When passing by the rath he saw a fine ash tree growing in the centre. He gave orders to his workman to cut down the tree, but the man said it was unlucky to have anything to do with the fairies' property. The farmer only laughed and got the tree cut down and left it lying on the grass and then went home. When he arrived home he found the sow and nine little banabhs that he had left in perfect health, lying dead. This was the fairies' revenge for cutting down their property.
- There is a tree growing in a fort in Finane and it is said that no one is to interfere with it. One day Jack O'Connor (R.I.P.) of Killaghy St. went up on the tree to cut it. He had the saw in the tree when he was flung from it on to the ditch. Nobody has attempted to fell the tree since then.
