The Lonergans in Kildonogue were weavers. There were five brothers a sister and uncle. The sister was saleswoman. She went to the fairs and markets selling flannel tweeds and blankets. The weaving was done in Kildonogue andthe spinning in Clogheen where they had a spinning mill. All the neighbours bought the flannel for waistcoats.
If any of them wanted flannel the women in the different houses used to card and spin the wool into thread and send it to Lonergans to make into flannel. The looms were worked with hands and feet. There were six weavers in Kildanogue for a while.
They gave up doing this work about 40 years ago. Thady Lonergan still lives in Kildanogue.- Faisnéiseoir
