- The principal time for marrying in this parish is Shrove time. Throughout the year certain days are regarded as unlucky, while others are supposed to be lucky.
The lucky days are Wednesday and Fridays, while the unlucky days are Mondays and Saturdays. Unlucky months are August, September, and October. There is an old saying which says"What is bound in the harvest is loosened in spring.It is men, not women who meet in the house when the match is introduced. A man is selected, to visit the girls people, and tell all the household about the match. If any agreement is made preparations are begun immediately for the girls parents and friends to meet as well as the marrying couple and decide the fortune.
The usual dowry is money. Then the wedding day is agreed upon, and the bridegroom gives an entertainment at his home about week before he marriage That is called "Picking the Gander"
