Here all the lady's friends were collected to meet him and the day, until the marriage hour was spent in feasting and dancing. The services of some old piper were sure to be obtained and the day passed merrily.In those days the young couple were not wed until late in the afternoon. They went to Church, the bride being in the last car in the marriage procession while the bridgegroom rode on horse-back and both were led to the altar by their nearest friends. When the marriage ceremony was over they were congratulated by the neighbours and when they came out of the Church, handfuls of rice and old shoes were thrown after the young couple to bring them good fortune. Then they returned to the bridegrooms home, where his friends were awaiting for their return. The neigbours gathered in soon after and when night fell the feast began. Dancing went on the whole night through, except when the guests were disturbed by rude visitors(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
