   No woman goes into a neighbours house on New Year's Day because most people believe they would have no luck for the year and in some localities it is very strictly kept. Many people keep the dirt of the house inside also ,fearing they would they would throw away the year's luck.
   On St Brigid's night people spread a scarf outside the door for St Brigid to walk on,the scarf represents her mantle which she spread on the ground for the druid when asking for the site of a church from him.On St Joseph's day people go to the blessed well to perform rounds for sore eyes ,sore ears chilblains or any similiar disease and if the person sees the eel ,it is a sure sign that his prayers are heard.
   There are many customs attached to May Eve in my locality .Everyone goes to Lake Fergus's for water .During the year they put a drop of this water in the churn when churning and they also give it to a sick cow. No one sells his butter on May Day fearing he would have no butter for the year. Bonfires are lighted on the twenty-fourth of June and when the fires are quenching the farmers drive out their cows through it ,so they would have good produce for the year ,and for the same reason they throw the the first beastings on the hearth.Some
