    Firkin making in Sráid na Cathrach
    Long ago ther were firkins made by Michael Hayes a brother of Tomás Óh-Aodha
    He would get staves of oak and cut them about twenty-six inches long.
    He shaped these staves with a spokeshave.
    The firkin was shaped together by two hoops one on top and one on the bottom.
    The hoops were fitted around the firkin.
    Then they were taken off again and tied with seasoned bullrushes and driven tight sa as to make the firkin watertight.
    Before the braces were fixed outside the firkin was chalked.
    There was a fire of shavings burned inside the body of the firkin.
    When it was properly heated the hoops were beaten down by a hammer to put the
