  1. Some time ago there was a fair held in Mullacrew, and in Louth. Mullacrew fair was the best and the largest. People would come to the fair from miles around. They would come to the fair three and four days before the fair, and would stop in the houses of the people. It was a great place for selling, boots, wool, ladders, gates, harness and farm animals. They would boil meat and sell it to the people. There were five public house in it, and the people would be fighting in them, all the men of Mullacrew were always armed with a black thorn stick and the stick was known by the name of "Smell Death". It is thirty-seven years since the last fair was in Mullacrew. The fair in Louth was not as big as the fair in Mullacrew.
