finished the drills are closed again with the plough.
Spades are not made locally but are bought in a shop. Long ago the ploughing was done by means of a wooden plough but now we have the iron one. No traces of the wooden ploughs are to be found locally.
The local people do not lack in giving a helping hand to each other. Every farmer helps his neighbour in some way or other. Sometimes if a man is in need of a plough or a horse to plant the potatoes his neighbour will give him one if he possible can.
Potatoes require treatments during the Summer months, because the scorching sun would burn the stalks, so the farmer lands them with the plough. The meaning of landing is, putting clay up to the drills.
Autumn is the time for taking out the potatoes. The farmer then gets ready his plough and ploughs them out. when he has them ploughed out he picks them together with some of his neighbours who help him. When he has all in bags he gets a horse and cart, bring them home and puts them in pits.
