- Local ruins St.Keenan
Not far from my native place stand the ruins of an old farmhouse. It is situated in Keenogue in the barony of Duleck. It was owned by a man named Walsh. It was here that our patron saint Keenan worked as a boy. His master was supposed to be a very mean man. Saint Keenan was employed keeping crows from the corn and his master compeeled him to do so even on the sabbath day. The saint on one particular sunday managed to collect all the crows and imprisoned them in the barn. He then proceeded to mass. On his return he was met by his angry master who demanded of him his reason for desrting his work. The saint replied that he had put all the crows in the barn. His master unconvinced nevertheless, proceeded to open the door of the barn. He was immediately met by a flock of angry crows who beat about his face and finally blinded him.
Not far from the house there is a well known as Keenans well where some say at light appears on his feast-day.
