    over the kitchen door. About eleven o'clock the uncanny wail commenced again as if from one in great agony. It continued until in sheer terror the old butler opened the window and poured a bottle of holy water down on the doorstep. The wailing ceased. Next day I had to leave but to this day the noise still continue, and during the night it is as if the entrie household were at work. It is an unsolved mystery what the noises are.
