    selling little things such as lace, pins, thread, studs, needles, mats, soap, hair - grips, combs, and so on.
    There come great droves of them at the beginning of July, as they are all gathering for the races of Bellewstown.
    Those that call at our house and who travel singly are: Red Andy, Old Rose, James Kelly.
    Red Andy is an old man who has always a bad cough. He has an old house in a place called Fullerstown where he sleeps and eats his meals.
    Callaghan who is dead, and was a big blustering fellow, as many other tinkers are, always kept a good distance away from Red Andy, small man though he was, as he used to fight with, and keep corrections on all.
    Old Rose is a very old woman, hardly able to walk, and who has always a couple of bags on her back.
