- I have travelled many lands,
From China to Peru,
And with details of beauty spots,
Could entertain you too.
But why wander far for beauty haunts,
No fairer have I seen,
Than the hills, and lanes, peaceful calm,
Beneath the Hill of Skryne.On evenings fine with dog and gun,
I tramped its grassy slopes,
While life was broad before my mind,
So bright with gilded hopes.
Yes! young and gay I scorned the place,
This quiet pleasant scene.
Last place on earth I named it then,
And fled from homely Skryne.Midst this and that, but best forget,
I disillusioned grew,
No carefree crowd of football pals.
In foreign lands I knew.
Nor was one there to grip my hand,
When down on luck I'd been,
No! a mothers love and a sweethearts smile,
