- Bread
In olden times home made bread was used generally. This home made bread differed in many ways from home made bread used at present. The materials for making it were generally grown on the farm. Oatmeal bread was largely used. This oatmeal was mixed with water and baked in the usual way. Boxty bread was made mostly of grated or shedded potatoes with a slight mixture of oatmeal or any other meal available. This was baked standing up before the fire supported by an iron instrument very like a tiny blackboard easel.
