- There are many old historic tales told about Hallow Eve. One story I remember hearing at home, is that the people of the household would leave a lighted candle on the window and some colcannon that the poor souls might come and eat it, a good coal fire would be left on that night also. I have heard another story from my mother that she had heard years ago.On Hallow-Eve night that if a dog was tied at the door and remain there all night, if at a certain hour of the morning he barked it was a sign of disaster.
