- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)went to that school because there was no other school. The children were taught Irish and Latin as well as the other subjects. After some time this became a National School. It was the first National School in this district. A son of this Master Flanagan became Headmaster in the Central Model School in Dublin. He also published an Arithmetic. There is a headstone erected over this Masters grave in the old cemetery at Killyon. It is now fallen to neglect. Killyon Old School was built in 1853. It replaced the hedge-school at Blackshade. The parishioners built it. It was built with stones which were brought from Clougherinco Quarry, ten miles away. Master Buck was the first Master that taught in it, next Master(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
