    the meantime they spied some neighbour with two fine horses so they asked him to come to their aid and he did. He yoked the two horses to the eel - but first of all they had to bore a hole in him with an iron to put in a chain in him to draw him home. So when they got him home they ate of him for three months without touching any other food or drink and from that day to this their name is on the banks of dying out as that was the curse - whoever ate of the eel the name was to die out - but the story was to live on. The Gaffneys were very well off and ther was a very large family of them. But soon after this they faded away and they are nearly all gone now.
    This is a true story, (she adds) it was told to my brother by Mick Gaffney himself, he is just one year and two months dead.
