After a while he got tired of it and wished himself at home in his bed. But no release! to his dismay he found that he could neither stop the horse nor throw himself off. On and on he went getting weaker and weaker from loss of breath until in the end he was more dead than alive.
At daybreak the spell was broken and the poor man found himself to his astonishment sitting astride a "burchalann" ("rag weeds" some call them which grow in meadows and have a big yellow flower) in his own field.
