- About one hundred years ago there were three brick kilns in one of our fields. The clay for the bricks was got from a pit in the field.
It was first broken up then wet like mortar it was then made into oblong blocks, dried a while in the sun. Then built into a kiln & fired with anthracite coal. When they were well burned the fire was let die out & when the bricks were cooled they were fit for use.
The coal was brought from Killkenny by a man they used to call the "Killkenny man". He used to bring it in long carts in which two asses were yoked.- Bailitheoir
